Edge of Heaven, 10 Kids 10 Songs -The Henman Family CD

In 2016 four of the ten Henman siblings from Nova Scotia sat in their sister’s living room in beautiful Mabou, Cape Breton – doing what they always do when they get together, making music. That night the seed was planted to create a cd of original Henman songs, Edge of Heaven, 10 Kids 10 Songs. It seemed to be the right time.  In 2013 the youngest sister, Patricia (Pat), and her daughter, were critically injured   by a drunk driver. Then in the fall of 2016, their brother Harold had a possible life threatening incident while taking a morning walk.  The good news is all ten are still here – age 56 to 70.

Their parents Julia and Bill Henman because of their own musical talent fostered their children’s passion for music. Local church choirs, stage plays and rock bands usually had a Henman in them.

This cd is a true labor of love and legacy. Although two of the Henman siblings live outside of Nova Scotia – one as far away as British Columbia – all 10 have come together for this special project of 10 songs.  As a bonus, their Mother’s recording in her late eighties of In the Chapel in the Moonlight will be a bonus track on the cd.

Not all the Henmans are new to recording studios. Jim is one of the founding members of the Canadian rock band, April Wine and a Juno Hall of Fame member, while Jean and Pat have recorded cds and continue to perform.  Pat is the 2012 Kootenay Music Award winner for Song of the Year. Paul and Joan both contributed songs to the project, while the remaining five, Jack, Bob, Harold, Judy and Stephen, will be featured singing lead and background vocals. The concept of the cd, Edge of Heaven: 10 Kids, 10 Songs was born.

Myles Goodwyn, family friend, (honorary sibling) and band leader of Canadian rock band April Wine plays electric guitar on Jean’s composition, My Home Town.

Ian Sherwood, Canadian singer/songwriter/producer arranged and created a cohesive cd project of 10 songs from the 5 sibling songwriters.

Proceeds from the sale of the cd and a portion of the costs for engineering and studio time from Scott Ferguson of FMP Matrix Studio will be donated in support of MADD Canada (Mothers against Drunk Driving). For more information on MADD Canada please visit their website at www.madd.ca
